reserve your place nowMany of us have unwanted hair. The unwanted hair can in some cases be caused by changes in the body such as hormone changes or aging. Hair is most effectively removed with the use of a laser made specifically for the purpose of hair removal.
Other forms of hair removal such as electrolysis can be slow and very costly when compared to laser hair removal. Presently you can have hair permanently removed in a fast efficient manner and say goodbye to waxing and shaving.
Laser hair removal devices have advanced significantly over the past ten years. Current treatments are safer and more effective than ever before. We have chosen state-of-the-art technology to provide our patients with successful hair removal.
At one time only patients with dark hair and light skin could be safely treated. With our Cutera Xeo® laser these restrictions no longer exist. We also use the Cutera Prowave 770® system to allow for more rapid hair removal over a larger area – such as the back or legs.
Our clinic is staffed by highly skilled and experienced technicians who are familiar with the use of our lasers. This ensures you the very best results while minimizing any possible side effects.
Come in for a consultation to discuss your needs. A test patch will be done to determine your suitability for the treatment being suggested by our staff. We will formulate a customized treatment program that will achieve optimum hair reduction in the safest, most comfortable manner.
Anyone can have their hair removed providing it contains melanin. Naturally red and blonde hair colours do not act as a target for the laser and cannot effectively be treated. Gray hair also lacks the necessary pigment for the laser. That is why it is important to treat unwanted hair before it turns gray.
All hair grows in cycles. At any time only about 30% of hairs will be growing and it is only the growing hairs that are affected by the laser treatment. As a result it is virtually impossible to eliminate all hair during one treatment, and four to eight treatments are normally required to achieve the optimum result in hair reduction.
At the consultation we perform a thorough examination of the area to be treated to ensure that it is suitable for laser hair reduction. A test must be done on a small area to establish that the treatment will be safe and effective.
Prior to the treatment the area is shaved and during the treatment the skin is cooled by the application of a cool gel. Over the next 2 -3 weeks hair will appear to “grow” as the dead hairs are ejected from the follicles.
The laser produces a wavelength of light targeting melanin in the actively growing hair follicle. The light passes harmlessly through the top layer of the skin and is absorbed maximally by the melanin in the hair follicle (root) and minimally by other tissues. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigment and this results in the liquefaction and destruction of key areas of the follicle so that a new hair cannot be produced.
The treatment results are often subtle. On average, you may require four to six treatments in order to achieve optimal results. Every patient's condition and needs vary. The results and number of treatments you can expect will be assessed at your consultation.
Most people do not experience discomfort during laser treatments. Often the sensation is described as “feeling like an elastic band being snapped gently on the skin”. We reduce discomfort by applying a cooling gel in the area being treated and the laser uses a cooling plate that enhances this effect. We also can use a device that blows chilled air on the area being treated. In the case of extreme sensitivity a numbing cream can be applied prior to treatment.
For the vast majority of people there is usually no problem whatsoever. We do a test patch before treatment to ensure that your body does not have an aversion to laser hair removal.
In preparing the area to be treated all external hair is removed. All laser hair removal is done in stages since your hair grows in stages – not all at the same time. The laser affects the roots of the hair, so no effect will be noticed until the remaining hair can be seen prior to the next treatment. You will of course notice far less hair and perhaps a few very fine hairs. With each subsequent treatment less hair will be seen. Laser hair removal does not remove all the hair but reduces dramatically by up to 99% the hair in the area treated. Sometimes vestiges of the old hair will be seen in the form of few very light fine hairs.
