Condition: Loss of lip volume

What is loss of lip volume?

Changes in the shape and size of the lips occur from early childhood. It is generally during the late teens that lips reach their maximum volume and from that time onward subtle changes occur. These changes can be cumulative and over time the lips will also appear changed.

This is a result of several factors including decreased elasticity of the skin, sun damage, the formation of wrinkles and changes in the alignment of the teeth, muscles and jaw structure. The result can be thinner lips with poor edge definition and marked down turning of the lip corners. Fortunately most of this change can be reversed

Treatment: Lip Enhancement

What is lip rejuvenation and enhancement?

Lips reduce in size and definition with age due to the loss of volume. As well, changes in the face that cause the downturned corners of the mouth also can be associated with the appearance of the lips. Lines above the lip begin to appear.

Most of the changes can be corrected and if you wish the lips can be enhanced in size and shape- we call this lip enhancement. Lip enhancement or reshaping the lips to their original fullness and the elimination of the downward turned corners of the mouth requires careful attention to this very important aspect of your visage. Dr. Rosenthal has done numerous lip enhancements and rejuvenation and her artistry, care and expertise will be both appreciated during the procedure and when you view the final results. Many clients comment on the subtle and natural good looking result.?

Frequently Asked Questions

How is lip rejuvenation and enhancement done?

Fillers are used to re-inflate the lips and fillers are also used to correct the downturned corners of the mouth.

Is lip rejuvenation and enhancement painful?

The combination of topical anaesthetic – a cream that numbs the skin is applied prior to the procedure, and the mixing of a local anaesthetic with the filler ensures that the procedure is performed without pain.

How long does it take?

The entire procedure takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

What is the social downtime with lip rejuvenation and enhancement?

Lips will always swell when fillers are injected. This swelling is temporary and usually recedes within 24 hours. Dr. Rosenthal will use techniques that will ensure that swelling is kept to a minimum. However, the swelling may be noticeable.
