reserve your place nowA brown spot is due to changes in pigmentation and there are several types. A solar lentigo also known as a liver spot or sun spot appears as a brown spot on the skin that is darker than the surrounding skin. It is due to sun exposure and is most common in areas of the skin exposed to the sun such as the hands and face.
Melasma is also known as the “mask of pregnancy”. It is a brown discoloration that is often caused by hormonal changes and is more common in women. This can appear as dark irregular patches usually on the upper cheeks, forehead, nose and lips. Darker skinned people are more prone to developing melasma as a reaction to sun exposure.
Freckles are small brown spots on sun-exposed areas. Some people are genetically more susceptible to developing freckles.
The selection of a treatment is dependent on several factors such as your skin type, and your treatment objectives. At your free consultation we will advise you of the alternatives available to you.

It is an effective, yet safe and gentle, approach to improving the appearance of your skin. Peels can be used to treat fine lines, weathered skin, acne, acne scarring, brown spots and enlarged pores, freckles, sun spots, age spots and even melasma.
Peels can also be used to jump start your skin care regimen, as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other more powerful treatments such as Laser Genesis®, IPL, TITAN®, eCO2 or Mosaic fractional laser therapy.
Chemical peels work on the top layer of the skin, loosening the glue that holds the dead skin cells together. With the peeling process, unwanted pigment is shed and healthy new epidermal cells are stimulated to grow. New collagen fibres in the underlying dermis are created, causing the skin to feel firmer.
Vitalize® Peels that combine the benefits of alpha- and beta- hydroxy acids with resorcinol - which has been in use for over 100 years - and Retinol deliver an effective result with a minimum of downtime.
Medique® peels combine four alpha hydroxyl acids with two beta hydroxy acids thereby reducing the stinging and irritation associated with other peels. The peels are available at different strengths allowing us to carefully control the depth of the treatment. This peel immediately stimulates peeling and you can leave the treatment 'peeled' and looking bronzed.
Dermaceutic peels contain AHA and BHA, particularly glycolic acid, which is the smallest molecule in fruit acid. For medium peels, the most commonly used agent is TCA. Dermaceutic peels come in three types that are used for various conditions. These very effective peels are packaged with pre and post care products.
Dermaceutic gentle peels are perfect for the busy person who wants effective results with no down-time. With a Dermaceutic gentle peel, you will improve the texture and luminescence of your skin as well as reduce fine lines and pigmentation, increase hydration and decrease open pores. All this with a simple procedure with no down-time!
Dermaceutic de-pigmentation peels are perfect for the busy person who wants quick results with little or no down-time. With a Dermaceutic de-pigmentation peel, melasma and deeper skin marks will be reduced.
A Dermaceutic rejuvenation peel is a simple procedure with very low down-time. A rejuvenation peel is recommended for advanced signs of sun damage and ageing of the skin such as loss of elasticity, scars, wrinkles or a smokers complexion. With a Dermaceutic rejuvenation peel, you will improve the texture and luminescence of your skin as well as stimulate cell renewal, reduce lines and wrinkles and delay skin ageing.
Peels are not used if you are taking Accutane (or have taken it in the past year). It is also recommended to abstain from peels for women who are pregnant or nursing, and those with certain systemic allergies. During your consultation you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire. There may be other situations where chemical peels should not be used.
You must be sure to protect yourself from the sun for at least a month after treatment.
An improvement can be expected in the texture of the skin through a reduction in fine lines and a decrease in the appearance of pore size. The unwanted brown pigmentation fades. The skin will appear smoother and more evenly coloured, creating a youthful glow. Acne blemishes will diminish and acne scarring may be less apparent.
Each treatment takes approximately 20 minutes. There may be temporary redness or discolouration which can easily be covered by make up. You will be able to immediately return to your everyday activities.
If you had a Vitalize® Peel, over the next few days mild flaking of the skin may develop, which can be concealed by the application of moisturizer. The amount of peeling depends on your skin type and may vary from treatment to treatment. A Vitalize® Peel will deliver a deeper longer lasting effect.
If you had a Medique® peel, all of the "peeling" has taken place and you may appear slightly bronzed after treatment.
If you had a Dermaceutic rejuvenation peel there may be some down time dependent on the type of peel that you select.
During the treatment you may experience a mild tingling and warmth for 1 to 3 minutes and this is minimized through the use of cooling.
The number of peels required depends on the condition of your skin and the nature of the problems being treated. For maximum benefit we may recommend a series of 6 peels at intervals of approximately 3 weeks. However, some people notice a dramatic improvement after only 1 treatment.
The best results are achieved by combining peels with Laser Genesis®, IPL, TITAN® and our customized skin care program.

Cosmeceuticals is a term that describes the product as being a ‘marriage of a cosmetic and a pharmaceutical’. The cosmeceuticals products can confer the benefit of the medicinal ingredient as opposed to a cosmetic, which is by definition designed only to enhance or in some cases disguise, features of the face and skin. The Rosenthal Clinic sells a range of cosmeceuticals to augment the treatment that we offer
In answer to your skin program or any concerns that you may have, our staff can advise you on the contents of a particular product and how the product can be of benefit to you.

The Mosaic Fractional Laser is a state of the art laser system using Controlled Chaos Technology which in effect causes multiple microscopic lasers being applied to the skin in random sequence, in a fashion not unlike spray painting.
This fractional laser can give astonishing results. You can now easily and with minimal downtime regain that youthful look. The treatment stimulates new collagen production and restores that youthful glow to your skin.
Now you can have a youthful appearance by treating those conditions that are typically associated with premature signs of aging and sun damage such as: excessive redness, large pores, uneven texture, fine-lines and wrinkles.
The Mosaic can show an astonishing improvement in fine lines and wrinkles around areas such as the eyes and mouth. The treatment can correct uneven skin colour, minimize the effects of sun-damage, reduce pore size and can substantially improve overall skin texture. This laser will also improve – by diminishing the appearance of scarring from either acne or surgical procedures.
It takes about an hour after the topical anaesthetic is put on.
Prior to the treatment you will receive treatment to ensure that you are not uncomfortable during the laser procedure. Typically all that is needed is topical numbing crème and ibuprofen. We take extra care to ensure that you will be comfortable during the treatment and afterwards. We will provide you with post-treatment care instructions and will also schedule a follow up visit to chart your progress.
After your first treatment you may see a very positive change, but for best longer lasting results you will require about 3 treatments. In the case of deep acne scarring you may require 5 treatments.
You can have treatment on the face, neck, décolleté, hands, arms, abdomen and scars – on most places.
Your facial appearance will be red and swollen – somewhat like sunburn. This can be covered with make-up. You can return to you regular routine or work the next day. Within 48 hours your skin will undergo ‘bronzing’ and there will be shedding of flakes. When this is completed your skin will be smooth and glowing. The changes are completely natural and while you may receive remarks about how good your skin looks, there will be no evidence that a laser procedure has been done other than an improvement in your appearance. The collagen production that is stimulated by the treatment continues for 6 -12 months, so you will continue to see additional subtle changes.

Pearl is the “one laser to choose” to renew your skin’s surface with quick, visible results. Pearl treats fine lines on the face and neck, uneven skin texture and light & dark spots caused by sun damage.
The Pearl laser replaces the entire top sun-damaged layer of skin with new healthy skin. Simultaneously, it sends heat to deeper layers of the skin stimulating new collagen growth, filling out and decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. New collagen growth continues for 4 to 6 weeks post-treatment. The combination of new skin and decreased wrinkles results in a healthier, more youthful appearance.
Unlike “fractional” treatments, Pearl treats the entire face, minimizing the number of required treatments. Typically, only 1-2 treatments are necessary to renew your skin.
During a Pearl treatment, the top layer of the skin is treated with pulses of light. The Pearl laser is guided over the skin, gently removing the top layer of the epidermis and heating a layer of tissue below it. A natural protective dressing is formed on the skin’s surface. After 3-4 days, the protective dressing peels off revealing new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath.
Pearl will smooth the skin’s texture, as well as soften fine lines and wrinkles, on the face, neck, upper chest and hands.
The treatment takes approximately 10-15 minutes for a full face. The treatment feels like a series of brief pinches.
Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With “social” downtime, you can continue your normal daily activities. However, you may not wish to attend important social events because after a Pearl treatment your face will appear pink/red for 3-4 days.
Patients of any age with sun damage, uneven skin texture and fine lines and wrinkles can benefit from Pearl treatments; however, the most common age group seeking treatment is 25-60.
After treatment, the skin will look like it is sunburned. Ointment will be applied on the skin to keep it moist. The skin will need to be kept moist for 3–4 days. Since you cannot wear sunscreen during this time, you will need to wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure for a few days following the treatment. You are free to wear make-up starting on day 3. After 3-4 days, the top layer of skin peels off revealing new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath.
Many patients experience excellent results after one treatment. Others may want a second treatment for best results.
You will see noticeable results on day 3 or 4, when the superficial tissue has peeled off, leaving fresh, new, healthy skin underneath.
Pearl offers the most effective treatment to address fine lines & wrinkles, sun damaged skin and uneven texture without wound care and the extended downtime required with traditional Erbium and CO2 laser procedures.
Today’s fractionated technologies treat only small portions of the face during each treatment. Typically, 3 treatments, each with 4-6 days of downtime and spaced a month apart, are required to treat the face.
Yes, FDA clearance was received in March 2007 for Pearl for skin resurfacing and the treatment of wrinkles. Pearl is used primarily on the face but has also been used on the neck, upper chest and hands.

This is a non-invasive treatment that erases skin damage without disrupting the skin surface. There is no downtime associated with this treatment. Compared with the earlier generation of IPL devices, the light source has been optimized for effective treatment while increasing comfort, safety and results. It can safely and effectively treat a wide variety of skin conditions simultaneously: freckles, brown spots and mottled pigmentation, redness, rosacea, small broken blood vessels, sun damaged aging skin and fine lines and wrinkles
The visible light delivered by the IPL procedure is selectively absorbed by the pigmented spots and red areas on your skin. Following each treatment the brown pigment gradually rises to the surface of the skin and flakes off. Dilated blood vessels in the skin disappear. With repeated treatments, collagen formation is stimulated, bringing about improvements in skin texture and the lessening of fine lines and wrinkles. It smoothes the skin by erasing the effects of sun damage while at the same time creating a youthful glow.
IPL is an innovative way to quickly, safely and comfortably improve your skin's texture, tone and colour. It can be used to treat your face, chest, arms and hands, without gel or topical anesthetics. Signs of sun damage and age spots will usually flake off after one or two treatments, leaving clearer, younger-looking skin.
The treatment results are often subtle. On average, you may require four to six treatments in order to achieve optimal results. Every patient's condition and needs vary. The results and number of treatments you can expect will be assessed at your consultation.
When the handpiece is placed on your skin, it will feel cool and comfortable. When the pulse of light is delivered, you may feel a mild, brief pinching sensation.
Many patients see significant improvement within two to three weeks of treatment. Your complexion will be clearer and younger-looking. However, your final result may not be apparent for a month or more.
Typically, one or two treatments are sufficient to see dramatic improvement in skin colour. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots, densely freckled areas, or excessively sun-damaged skin. We recommend 5 treatments for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles and a marked improvement in skin texture.
Over time due to sun exposure new spots may appear. These can be removed with further treatments. We recommend the liberal application of full spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater and reducing sun exposure.
While IPL by itself is effective in reducing overall sun damage, by combining the IPL treatment with Levulan® there is an increased level of improvement. You will see an even greater cosmetic benefit with each treatment – reduced pore size, more even coloured tone, smoother texture and restoration of a youthful, rejuvenated look.
As we grow older, minor imperfections can turn into multi-layered problems. We use the latest XEO® laser system, which takes a 3 dimensional approach to skin rejuvenation – resulting in noticeably improved skin tone, texture, and tightness. We can treat the skin at 3 different depths using 3 different techniques – IPL, Laser Genesis® and TITAN®. Each type of treatment is available on an individual basis; however, when used together the treatments can achieve outstanding results including firmer, glowing skin.
This is an exciting new approach to non-ablative skin rejuvenation.
